WM Events Ltd is a small privately-owned company based on the outskirts of London in Kent, with the aim to provide a high quality service with the knowledge and workmanship expected form our clients.
The company was formed by the two Directors, David Moynes and Stuart Wood in late 2015 after spending all of their working lives involved in the events industry. Both have come from a high-quality interior back ground, having worked for a prestigious company before leaving to set up WM Events Ltd.
The company has a work ethic to produce the highest quality workmanship in a controlled and measured manor.
Having left school back in the mid 1980’s, David started his working career as a Draughtsman for Black & Edgington, then the Tent and Flag making company to the Queen.
Working on projects such as Wimbledon and Henley Royal Regatta, he soon progressed to become a Project Manager taking over many projects from the Directors at the time.
Working on many Royal events, such as Prince Andrew & Sarah Ferguson’s wedding, Royal State Visits, the funeral to the Queen Mother and Princess Diana, he became heavily involved behind the scenes of ceremonial and Royal projects.
In his time, he has worked at 32 Championships at Wimbledon, 32 Henley Royal Regattas, 10 Cheltenham Gold Cups, over 40 Royal State Visits, The London Olympics, Commonwealth Games, numerous golf events and many individual events and parties, to name just a few.
He continued to progress to become a Project Director, still looking after big projects, when he decided to change his life and start WM Events Ltd with Stuart Wood, a good friend and work colleague. New skills had to be encompassed to start a business with Stuart, which he has relished and enjoys.
As for time away from work, time spent with the family is important and enjoyable, and trying to keep up with his son playing computer games is not so easy as he thinks. Cars and motorsport are David’s passions, where he has several sports cars and is an active rally driver in his classic Talbot Sunbeam.
So he is here today, to help make the next project and events as good as any in the last 32 years.
Work experience as a 13 year old for Stuart was with Black & Edgington, the Tent and Flag making Company, with the aim to join the company as a carpentry apprentice. This move was to follow in his family’s footsteps.
He had big boots to fill, his father was a carpenter at Black & Edgington, and his grandfather was a Site Forman there too. He was going to be a third generation of the Wood family to work at ‘Edgingtons’ and to continue the skills passed down from father to son, Grandfather to Grandson. His grandmother also worked for the same company, a true family business in its day.
He passed his apprenticeship with flying colours and went on to continue his education to become an advanced level carpenter. He soon become one of the most skilled carpenters in the company, but wanted to progress his career further.
He started working at the Henley Royal Regatta from day one of his working life along-side his father and Grandfather. Over the intervening years, Stuart would rise through the ranks to become a Construction Manager, taking on his father and grandfathers role of running the Henley Royal Regatta project on site building the temporary structures. He has now been working on the last 24 Regattas amongst other prestigious projects working with his now business partner David Moynes.
Stuart progressed to become a Project Manager, looking after over 10 projects a year, including Henley Royal Regatta, Ceremonial and Royal Projects and many ice rinks.
Stuart loves to spend time with his wife and two children, either making Lego or bike rides in the park keeps him active at weekends. Keeping in touch with friends and enjoying a good social life keeps Stuart and his family busy.
Deciding to set up WM Events Ltd with David, he hasn’t looked back and enjoys the challenge of running a business and producing high quality work with the great team he has around him.
